Sermons I Would Give

Several years ago there were two Lutheran (ELCA) churches in Northeast El Paso.  After years of struggling individually, Good Shepherd and St. John's decided to merge and be one.  And New Hope Lutheran Church was born.

The first Council was elected and then the Council elected its officers.  And that's how I became the first Council President of New Hope.

Since we did not have a Pastor yet, it was my job (as Council President) to make sure we had some one in the pulpit every Sunday.  If I couldn't find a guest Pastor and guest speaker, I got to do the honors.

Multiple people told me I should be a pastor, but I quickly explained that I could give a good sermon, but I could not "Pastor".  There IS a difference.  One person preaches (or teaches) while the other meets the spiritual needs of a congregation, both the individuals IN the congregation and the congregation as a whole.

Over the years since then, I have often thought about what sermon I would give based on the same scriptures.  So, I've decided that in 2013 I will use the scriptures from www.textweek.com, which many churches use, and write sermons.

My plan is to post a new sermon every Friday or Saturday (depending on my schedule).  My first one should be up January 4th or 5th.  I hope to complete my goal of one sermon for every Sunday and every important day in the Christian church (Good Friday, Christmas Eve, etc).

I hope that these sermons are words that God would have me give, if I were in a pulpit.  I hope these reach someone who is in need of hearing (reading) the words as I put them forth.  I hope that I explain the scriptures in a way that is simple and meaningful.  I also hope that I get as much out of this as you, the reader.

So in 2013, this is were you'll find the "Sermons I would Give".
